Audubon Zoo Hosts Celebracion Latina
Celebrate Latin American culture at Audubon Zoo on Sunday, October 16, 2016
Audubon Zoo will be shining the spotlight on Latin-American culture as Celebracion Latina returns Uptown on Sunday, October 16.
The family-friendly festival presented by the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University has called Audubon Zoo home since 2010.
Celebracion Latina offers live music, children's activities and Latin cuisine prepared and sold by New Orleans area restaurants. Local artisans also will sell handmade crafts.Area social service and community organizations will be on hand to provide information about wellness, education and other topics.
A full day of live entertainment is scheduled for the Capital One Performance Pavilion, beginning with Muevelo at 11 a.m. and concluding with Ovi G & The Froggies who will take the stage at 3:30 p.m.
"Celebracion Latina is a wonderful way to recognize Louisiana's rich Latin American heritage. We invite everyone to come and enjoy a day of family activities, Latin food and music and the wonders of nature at Audubon Zoo.''
Celebracion Latina is staged with the support of Jefferson Financial Credit Union and Pan American Life Insurance Group. WWNO 89.9 FM in New Orleans is the event's official media sponsor.
While enjoying the festivities, visitors can stroll through Jaguar Jungle, Audubon Zoo's Central America-themed exhibit that features jaguars, spider monkeys, macaws and other animals from the region. Jaguar Jungle is dotted with reproductions of ancient structures from Copan and Chican Itza.
Festival activities are included in regular Audubon Zoo admission. Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free of charge. No outside food or beverages are allowed in Audubon Zoo for Celebracion Latina.
