Audubon Zoo Hosting a Beloved Animal Ofrenda

This year’s Halloween festivities at Audubon Zoo will include a special Dia de los Muertos celebration and all Zoo guests are invited to participate. Audubon Zoo is hosting a Beloved Animal Ofrenda, sponsored by Pan-American Life Insurance Company.

An ofrenda, which means “offering” in Spanish, is an altar created to honor loved ones who have passed away. These traditional ceremonial displays are full of colorful symbols, flowers, pictures, candles, and other meaningful items, and they are an essential part of Dia de los Muertos celebrations. The Beloved Animal Ofrenda will honor the memory of cherished Audubon animals who have passed on but continue to hold a special place in our hearts. Zoo guests can bring photos of their beloved pets to be remembered in the ofrenda.

The Beloved Animal Ofrenda will be at Audubon Zoo from October 17, 2025, through November 2, 2025.

Guests who explore the Zoo during this weekend’s popular Boo at the Zoo benefitting Audubon Zoo and Manning Family Children’s presented by Keesler Federal can drop off photos of their beloved pets for inclusion in the ofrenda.

Boo at the Zoo is a safe, day-time Halloween celebration at Audubon Zoo and an annual tradition that features trick-or-treating, plenty of fun activities for all ages, animal encounters, and special chats with animal keepers.
