Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium Will Close for Hurricane Preparations

Audubon Aquarium and Audubon Insectarium will be closed on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to allow teams to test emergency preparations before the start of hurricane season.

Unlike the preparations you may make at home, the teams at these downtown attractions have multiple systems to check to ensure the health and safety of the animals at the Aquarium and Insectarium. They will test four levels of backup electrical generators and will monitor and analyze all water, air, and life support systems to make sure they are fully operational in case of an emergency.

Team members will also review food needs and supplies for the animals at the Aquarium and Insectarium for hurricane season.

The Aquarium and Insectarium will reopen at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
