Dancing White Alligator Spotted Near Riverfront

Officials with Audubon Nature Institute say people should be on the lookout for a dancing white alligator looking for fun around New Orleans at night.

The creature looks suspiciously like Tchompitoulas, Audubon Aquarium’s famed white alligator. Last night, the alligator (actually a dancing light show created by a local artist) was seen cavorting on the bridge near Crescent Park. Where will Tchompitoulas show up next?

While the light show featuring Tchompitoulas will continue at random spots around the city for the next two weeks, the real alligator is safe and sound in his home at Audubon Aquarium.

The popular attraction is wrapping up a $41 million renovation and it, along with the newly envisioned Audubon Insectarium, will open to the public on June 8, 2023. Between now and then, keep your eyes peeled – there’s no telling where Tchompitoulas may visit next!
