New Addition to Woldenberg Riverfront Park Opens

On June 19, 2025, city leaders, community members, and special guests gathered along the Mississippi River to celebrate the grand opening of the newest addition to Woldenberg Riverfront Park—a beautiful new green space designed to reconnect people with the river and enhance the downtown experience.

The newly unveiled area offers expanded shaded areas, lush landscaping, and improved connectivity to ongoing beautification efforts along Canal Street and the broader riverfront. It is part of a larger vision to make New Orleans’ riverfront one of the most dynamic and accessible in the nation.

“This beautiful new section of Woldenberg Park is more than just a green space—it’s a symbol of our commitment to creating accessible, welcoming environments for both residents and visitors,” said Michael J. Sawaya, Audubon Nature Institute President & CEO and L. Ronald Forman Chair in Conservation Leadership. “It strengthens the connection between our community and the river that defines us.”

The project was funded through $5.39 million from City of New Orleans Capital Outlay and Audubon funds. Phase Three of the Woldenberg Park improvement plans is still in the planning stages.  Supported by a HUD Community Project Funding award and Audubon funds, Phase Three is designed to increase accessibility to the riverfront park.
